How Wave/Rider Works

A stock screener that puts you in control of the analysis.

Most stock screeners tell you which stocks are "good." They hand you rankings produced by proprietary formulas and expect you to trust the output. You can't see why a stock ranked where it did, and you can't change what "good" means.

Wave Rider does the opposite. We surface public market data in a transparent way and let you define the criteria. Your preferences drive the scoring. Two users with different preferences see different scores for the same stock — because "good" depends on what you're looking for.

Wave Rider is informational. It doesn't predict prices, give buy/sell advice, or pretend to know what any individual stock will do. It's a tool that helps you see the data clearly.

Three Pillars

You define the criteria

Create a Preference — your personal scoring rulebook. Pick which factors matter to you (dividend yield, balance sheet strength, recent momentum, volatility, etc.) and how much weight each should carry. Set filters so only stocks you care about enter the universe (e.g. only Technology, only >$10B market cap, only profitable companies).

We ship with seven built-in preferences to get you started — covering income, defensive large-cap, turnaround candidates, revenue growers, low volatility, and a no-preference market-cap browse. You can clone any of them and tune them to your taste, or build your own from scratch.

Transparent scoring math

When a stock scores 72, you can see exactly which factors contributed what. Hover any score to see the full breakdown: "+30 from daily change, +18 from volume surge, +15 from 52-week position, +8 from recent pumps." No black box.

All math runs in your browser using public data from DEXScreener, Coinbase, Yahoo Finance, Finnhub, and FRED. Your preferences never leave your device.

Watchlist analytics that go beyond the headline number

For any stock on your watchlist, we compute inflation-adjusted returns over 1, 3, and 5 year windows. "The stock went up 15%" sounds nice, but if inflation was 4% and dividends added 2%, your real purchasing-power gain is the number that matters.

We use CPI-U from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (via the Federal Reserve's FRED database) and show the full methodology. Click the analytics button next to any watchlist stock to see it.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't give financial advice. We don't tell you what to buy or sell. Every score is described in factual terms — "matches your filters" — never as a recommendation.
  • We don't predict future prices. Scoring reflects current data against your criteria, not a forecast.
  • We don't generate data. Everything comes from public third-party APIs. If Yahoo has a bad price, we have a bad price. If FRED updates CPI monthly, so do we.
  • We don't share your preferences. They live in your browser's local storage. We have no server-side record of what you've built.

Where We're Going

Wave Rider is bootstrapped. We're building with free data sources, free APIs, and a small team. What's here today is a real product, but it's v1 — here's the honest roadmap of what's live, what's being built now, and what's planned when we can afford the data.

Live today
  • ·Curated universe of ~1,400 US stocks plus a small OTC/ADR set
  • ·Seven built-in preferences plus unlimited custom preferences
  • ·Three-wave scoring (W1 price activity / W2 asset-backed / W3 market-driven), all transparent
  • ·Watchlist with inflation-adjusted return analytics (1Y, 3Y, 5Y)
  • ·Daily snapshot refresh
  • ·Full crypto, stocks, and OTC modes
Being built now
  • ·News + fundamental scoring as a signed modifier (−50 to +50) on top of price-based scores
  • ·User-tunable weight between price and news/fundamentals (10–50%)
  • ·Sortable column headers across every grid (admin and user pages)
  • ·Lightweight charting (price + volume) on stock detail
  • ·Mobile-responsive web polish
Pro tier (when we have revenue or 1,000+ active users)
  • ·Universe expansion to thousands of stocks (paid data provider)
  • ·Higher data quality across the board (paid data provider)
  • ·Real-time quotes during market hours
  • ·Multi-year historical analytics with full dividend reinvestment

We don't promise dates. The "being built now" items are weeks-out; the Pro tier waits until we can responsibly afford the data subscriptions that make it real. We'd rather ship slow and honest than fast and broken.

Privacy

Your preferences and watchlist are stored in your browser's local storage only. They never hit our servers.

We don't require accounts. There's nothing to sign up for.

We don't sell data, show ads, or track you across the web.
